RE: 8 Acts of Chivalry

The cry has gone out once again, ye pathetic cowering examples of manhood! Read it and weep!

http://jamesmsama.com/2014/02/01/8-acts-of-chivalry-to-bring-back/

I have my own chivalric dreams. Here I list the aspects of chivalry most sorely needed in the world today.

1. Be a man! And suffer unreasonably for your lord. And suffering doesn't mean going overseas for a few months. It means being hacked at with swords for a cause not likely to benefit you because you probably won't survive. That's right. Can't have chivalry without feudalism.

"A man should suffer greatly for his lord, endure both biting cold and sweltering heat, and sacrifice for him both flesh and blood." -The Song of Roland 11 Cent France

2. Be a man! Only pursue a woman of higher station than you. If you find a peasant woman attractive, don't try to seduce her- just take her by force and get on with life. (If my sarcasm isn't reaching you yet, please stop reading now.)

"If you should, by some chance, fall in love with a peasant woman, be careful to puff her up with lots of praise and then, when you find a convenient opportunity, do not hold back but take your pleasure and embrace her by force. For you can hardly soften their outward inflexibility so far that they will grant you their embraces quietly or permit you to have the solaces you desire unless you first use a little compulsion as a convenient cure for their shyness. We do not say these things, however, because we want to persuade you to love such women, but only so that, if through lack of caution you should be driven to love them, you may know, in brief compass, what to do. (Parry, p. 150, adapted)." - De Amore 12th Cent France

3. Be a man! In with the old, out with the new.

"A new love brings an old one to a finish." -De Amore 12th Cent France

4. Be a man! Kill the people who dare preserve math! And science! And stuff!

"Thou shalt make war against the Infidel without cessation, and without mercy." -    Chivalry by Leon Gautier

5. Be a man! Never back down from a challenge, even if you realize it was a really stupid one to accept. Like Sir Gawain, who accepts a challenge from the Green Knight to strike him with his axe if he will take a return blow in a year and a day. Gawain accepts and beheads him in one strike, and the Green Knight picks up hi head and tells Gawain that it's his turn to have a go. Gawain doesn't back down, and spends the next year trying to survive history's most ridiculous bet.

6. Be a man! And buy me chocolate.
"Every act of a lover ends in the thought of his beloved." -De Amore
